Mobile Ticketing to Dramatically Improve the Travel Experience for Millions of New Yorkers

During a news conference at the Brooklyn Transit Museum on Friday the 8th of January 2016, New York’s Governor Cuomo, along with MTA Chairman and CEO Tom Prendergast, gave details regarding the recently announced transportation-focused agenda to upgrade New York’s transit infrastructure.

Part of the announcement was that the MTA will begin offering mobile ticketing on the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad this year, giving railroad passengers the ability to buy tickets on their smartphones.

The future is mass transportation”said New York’s Governor Cuomo.

These changes will revolutionize the travel experience for New Yorkers and allow passengers to travel on the railroad without needing to carry cash or wait in line to buy their ticket.

The system will also allow riders to manage the value in their accounts online instead of on physical tickets that can be lost or damaged.
