MBTA and Masabi Launch Managed Event Transit Ticketing for Major International Soccer Matches Hosted in Boston

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) and Masabi announced the launch of a custom in-app ticket purchasing experience designed to help manage access to dedicated stadium transportation services during the major international soccer matches taking place in Boston this summer.

Available through the MBTA mTicket app, the new offering enables eligible match attendees to purchase transportation tickets for dedicated services to Boston Stadium. It has been designed to support the significant increase in demand expected during the seven matches being played in Boston, helping the MBTA efficiently manage passenger flows while providing a simple and convenient experience for fans via a format they are already familiar with.

The solution is powered by Masabi’s Justride platform and leverages the existing integration between the MBTA and Velocia. Riders can select “Buy Tickets to Boston Stadium” within the MBTA mTicket app and complete a registration process to unlock access to event transportation tickets. Tickets will be made available by match and boarding group, enabling the MBTA to manage capacity and provide controlled access to high-demand services associated with each event.

“Major international sporting events place extraordinary demands on public transportation systems,” said Brian Zanghi, CEO at Masabi. “Using the flexibility of our Justride platform, the MBTA was able to rapidly introduce a managed event transportation offering that addresses these challenges without requiring a separate application or new infrastructure. This deployment demonstrates how transit agencies can use configurable fare payment technology to respond quickly to unique operational needs while maintaining a seamless rider experience.”

Beyond Boston, Masabi technology supports fare payment and ticketing programs in several North American host cities for this summer’s international soccer tournament, including New York and Los Angeles. Together, these deployments are helping transit agencies prepare for increased ridership and deliver efficient, reliable transportation for visitors and residents alike.
