SacRT Launches Transit Connect, a New Regional Fare Payment System for Sacramento, Powered by Masabi

Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) announced the launch of Transit Connect, a new regional fare payment system powered by Masabi. With Transit Connect, riders can now purchase and activate tickets anytime, anywhere, using their smart device, and board by simply showing their digital ticket to the driver or fare inspector, eliminating the need for cash or paper tickets.

The first phase of Transit Connect sees the introduction of SacRT full-fare mobile ticketing, along with rider-friendly features such as an in-app stored value wallet, group ticketing, and multi-agency support. These enhancements create a faster, more flexible, and more convenient way to pay for transit, while laying the foundation for future capabilities, including additional agency integrations, account-based ticketing, smartcard support, and fare capping. Eventually, this will extend to all agencies and modes of transit across the Sacramento region.

Transit Connect is designed around a “one app, one account, one balance” philosophy, simplifying fare payments across multiple transit systems in the Sacramento region. As more agencies join the platform, riders won’t need to juggle multiple apps or payment methods for each agency when their journeys span multiple systems, making public transit more accessible, efficient, and attractive.

SacRT operates over 81 bus routes and a light rail system covering 438 square miles, including service to Sacramento International Airport, the cities of Citrus Heights, Folsom, and Rancho Cordova, as well as surrounding unincorporated communities. For agencies throughout the Sacramento region, Transit Connect is set to bring riders faster boarding, greater convenience, and a seamless travel experience.
