Saint John Transit launched the first phase of a new digital fare payment system powered by Masabi. With SJTRides, the agency’s new mobile ticketing app, riders are able to purchase tickets and passes anytime, anywhere, increasing access to Saint John Transit services.
The ground-breaking new mobile ticketing solution, powered by Masabi’s Justride, will transform the rider experience by allowing Saint John Transit riders to control a single mobility account from their smartphone device, and travel throughout the network quickly and seamlessly. When boarding, riders who choose SJTRides can simply scan their mobile device using the new onboard validators, significantly speeding up the boarding process. Riders can also now purchase tickets online and send them to a mobile device - particularly useful for parents purchasing tickets for their children - or print for use.
“Saint John Transit’s Transforming Transit project is about operating sustainably and adopting industry standards and new technology to better serve current riders and to attract new users. We consider transit as an essential service, and we want it to be the best and most modern that it can be,” said Kevin Loughery, Senior Manager, Transit and Fleet, at City of Saint John. “Our new app, SJTRides, provides convenience, choice and savings. Riders who choose mobile ticketing will also see a five percent discount across all fare categories.”
“Mobile ticketing is a logical choice for agencies putting their customers’ convenience first, giving them the convenience of ticket purchasing and processing at the touch of a button, and creating better journeys,” said Brian Zanghi, CEO of Masabi. “We are delighted to launch this best-in-class solution in Saint John, joining the ranks of transit agencies around the world who have put their customers first, and look forward to working with the agency to further develop the service in the future.”
Saint John Transit provides fixed route and on-demand public transit service within the region of the City Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. Over 1,500,000 passengers a year use the service. Through the “Transforming Transit” project, the agency is introducing service enhancements and features designed and developed to enable Saint John Transit to operate more sustainably, attract new riders and better serve current riders, adopt new technology, and introduce industry and system standards.
